One, Two Number Poem and Game

Finding fun and interesting ways to teach preschoolers math and music is sometimes a challenge. Here's an activity to help make it a bit easier. The poem, One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, is popular preschool poem. In this activity we will be giving this old poem a bit of a make-over. New lyrics and movements will make it fresh and fun!

Alternative Lyrics to One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

One, Two, me and you. (point to yourself and then across to a friend)
Three, Four, circle the floor. (start everyone walking in a clockwise fashion)
Five, Six, time to switch. (now turn around and walk the other way)
Seven, Eight, freeze in place. (everyone freeze in a funny pose)
Nine, Ten, begin again. (start walking in a circle again)

Older preschoolers, especially, may want to try this "word search" activity to help children identify objects in their world.

One, Two, Where is my Shoe? (point to your shoe)
Three, Four, Where is a Door? (point to the door)
Five, Six, Find something that Ticks. (you can point to a clock, a watch, a timer, whatever you see that ticks)
Seven, Eight, Name a State. (You may want to pick state preschooler lives in or you can pick a new state every time you play and learn about it.)
Nine, Ten, Point to a Friend. (point to someone who is your friend)
