Alphabet Poem
Try this fun activity for helping your preschooler to learn the ABC's. On a piece of paper, write in bold marker all the letters of the alphabet. Be sure to have your preschooler help and sing the ABC song with you. Then write your name and the preschooler's name in bold letters. Try to match up the letters of the alphabet to the letters in your names. Continue this alphabet activity by making it into a poem, then have the child pick words that begin with each letter of their name. This will spark creativity and interaction with preschoolers and promotes learning at the same time!
Sample Alphabet Name Poem
DANIELLE
D-stands for Delightful. Delightful to be around.
A-stands for Awesome. Awesome flute player.
N-stands for Nice. Nice to play with.
I-stands for Interesting. I find her Interesting.
E-stands for Excellent. She is an Excellent cook.
L-stands for Lovely. She has Lovely hair.
L-stands for Likable. She is a very Likable person.
E-stands for Elegant. A very Elegant dancer.
Picking out talents and personality traits make this even more special. Preschoolers love to hear what they are good at. For a group setting, have the preschoolers go around in a circle with each child picking a letter of another child's name, saying a nice thing that begins with that letter. This is especially good for a group of older children. Hanging them on a wall to admire when they are all finished would be a nice way to display all their new poetry and artwork!
